Rhododendron
Emerging from the Portland, OR music scene, Rhododendron sidestep any attempts to pigeonhole them. Their sonic palette is an eclectic mix, drawing from genres such as post-hardcore, noise rock, math rock, and even dipping their toes into screamo, jazz fusion, and sludge metal. The band's sound is an enigmatic blend of Gage Walker's discordant basslines, Ezra Chong's cacophonous, effect-drenched guitar, and the occasional piercing shriek, all underpinned by the relentless drumming of Noah Mortola. Dense and technical, their primarily instrumental compositions serve as a thrilling exploration of sound and rhythm.
Since their formation in early 2019, Rhododendron has proven to be a force in their local music circles, cultivating a devoted cult following and a reputation for electrifying performances. Their two releases showcase a band unafraid to experiment and push boundaries, earning them not only a strong local following, but also the respect of their contemporaries. They've shared the stage with fellow trailblazers Twistur, Dr/unk, Sea Moss, and a host of other notable bands, further cementing their place in Portland's bustling music scene
